The mission of RIGW is to carry out research to support groundwater development and management plans, within the framework of the overall integrated water resources development and management, aiming at increasing the contribution of groundwater in the water and food security programs for the growing population of Egypt. To fulfill this mission, RIGW has to participate in the initiation of a management and legislation system for the protection of groundwater from degradation and the control of the environmental impacts that may accompany groundwater development.
